a normal day

Just thought I'd post something different to the usual rantings I see on here most days......
I cycled into work today, I left the jeep on the drive next to the porsche, not that I needed to of course, I don't get charged to drive on a road I already pay VED to use around here.
The weathers a bit windy, but its not too bad. The few cars that passed me gave me a wide berth as usual, maybe it was because I had a wooly hat on.......I think theres a study on it somewhere.... I said "HI" to to the guy who I often see stopped at the lights with his kids in the bike trailer, He helped me fix a puncture a while back when I'd left my spare tube in the seat bag on my other bike.
I had no problems with the cycle paths or the no-car lanes as usual.........because I don't pass any on my commute, and the taxi drivers were fine as usual......come to think of it, so were the buses. No one cycled through the bus link, the red lights (all two of them) or the zebra crossing. My new puncture proof tyres didn't puncture, and my £400, 5000mile bike still works as new....although I admit I changed the chain last autumn and previously mentioned tyres at christmas. My jeans were fine for keeping my legs warm and my £15 end of season 661 gloves were still functioning well after 2 years use. I think some school kids shouted at me as I passed....but then, thats what school kids do isn't it. Maybe it's because I have panniers on my bike? I hear it's not "cool" these days. :?
anyway, thats all really.
All in all, a normal day.
Sorry I don't have anything negative to add.
Jas

Frankly I don't think we need these sorts of contributions
Can we not get a mod to ban him or something? :P0 -
my normal day then;
wake up, look at clock "oh crap"
pile out of bed and get dressed in standard jeans and hoodie (universal uniform of a student) while thinking "go to lecture or e-mail lecturer appologising for absence" while cursing the fact i didn't get to bed until 5 am the night before.
I pile out of the door and run straight into the railings
I remember my bike which I lug down the stairs and out into the street, laughing at the chaos from the road works in the main road.
i roll 3 yards down the pavement until i can join the side road and cruise up between the middle of parked cars, gears slipping a little and eventually get let out onto the main road by the lights
for the fun of it, and my phobia of going splat into the back of a stopping bus I take the right hand lane down the hill, tucking down into the tight roundabout, joining the coventry ring road roundabout at about 20+mph, laughing as i find a gap and blast round and up through town
all in all a nice trip inMy signature was stolen by a moose

I take it jjojjas didn't read The Daily Express today then. Otherwise he would have realised that those of us who don't die of some new disease brought into the country by illegal immigrants will be murdered in our beds by illegal immigrants, so we might as well all emigrate. I didn't get to the bit about the latest Diana theory.0

2 sets of traffic lights? I go through more than 40!
(All on green of course.) :roll:0 -
Up (dark)
shower, etc
Out (bike 1), gears slipping and f  k knows what's up with them, this indexing business leaves me cold
Warm but the usual headwind
One set of lights, which I cross at, no traffic so over I go...
Station...park bike 1...on train
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...whilst listening to MP3s
London...get off train, find bike 2, front mudguard now nearly disintegrated...sigh...
1 million set of traffic lights, all red, all obeyed by me but not 50% of other cyclists, including well dressed suits on foldies, says it all really, get stuck behind slow person...sigh...cycle lanes most of the way, zombie peds but nothing new there
Cobbles...more cobbles...mudguard now in 1 trillion pieces, too cheap to buy another, will use tape on it later...
Arrive. Lock bike. take off lid, vest, trouser ties, etc...
Go and buy milk. Go to office. Brekkie. Meeting. The usual...
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -

15 Mile Commute, 14 sets of lights (10 within the last 2 miles on the way in).
Wierdly the other day I did the whole ride without putting my foot down - this was during rush hour too. Noticed after about 5 or 6 sets and to my astonishment the dice just kept landing in my favour, no trackstands or tricks like that, it just happened.
"Impressive break"
"Thanks...
...I can taste blood"0 -
I'd just like to say "Hi" to the chap I saw riding along the A370 this morning with a track pump strapped to his back. Seems a bit of an extreme measure though, there are better ways to cut down the time it takes to fix a puncture!"Impressive break"

I've cycled with a track pump strapped to my back before! Maybe like me he had just bought it and was taking it home. On occassion you'll see me cycling with all my photography equipment strapped to my back, this includes my very heavy pro tripod. It's a bugger on the big hills :oops:0 -
I'd just like to add that this morning i experienced:
no near misses with buses/cars/lorries/black cabs/very unsure novice cyclists/deathwish RLJ speeding cyclists
no slips, slides or skids on oily roads
no sudden, panicked stops brought on by somone else's stupidity
No problems with pedestrians stepping out in front of me
Very few red lights, and those that did occur were welcome
No squishing against walls/parked cars
Come on London road users, what's wrong with you??? Are you trying to lull me into a false sense of security or something??point your handlebars towards the heavens and sweat like you're in hell0 -
