Morning All,
First post on here so go easy on me :-), spent the morning on the forum and it looks like a great place!. Ive had a rockhopper pro disc which has been my trusty steed which got chucked at everything and has served me well. Its getting on a bit now and im looking for an upgrade. Im looking at getting an 07 Epic FSR Comp http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/bikes/mountain/product/epic-comp-07-21293?img=1 for about £1100 locally. I want to do trails, xc, with a bit of downhill and this seems ideal. Anyone got any goods or bads about this choice or can recommend something else - any help gratefully received!
Thanks
Chunk

I own the 07 Epic Expert which is basically the same bike as the comp. I love it, but then others won't. In magazines they quite often talk about the rear shock isn't consistent, unless your really anal about your riding it isn't that noticeable. If you are that anal about it then you shouldn't be riding a cheap £1500 bike!
I've ridden all the mbwales centres on it and plenty of road riding and I love it. It's definitely not as quick as a hardtail but it's a darn site quicker than a FS and a great all round bike. Best thing to do is arrange to ride one at your local shop, you can talk about the "this has LX but that has XT" scenario all day long but when you ride something you will either like it or you won't, if you like the ride and like the looks then your sorted.0 -
Cheers for the reply, yeah im not that anal, just want to enjoy it. What youve said is what appeals to me, seems to fit nicely between a hardtail and a full suzzie. Ive seen some of the comments in reviews about a slight delay with the shock on occasions but Im probably not that good a rider for it to make a difference.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, really like the bike and the positive review is encouraging!0 -
I tried the 2008 Stumpjumper has they say you ethier like the brain or not !
I didnt get on with the new brain shock.
Had to keep getting of the bike to adjust to the terrain?
As we know no terrain is the same so if the adjustment was somwhere
where you can change when riding then great.
I went for the Orange 5 the back was more active and very confident out on the
trails and light and very well balanced.
Were as the Stumpy just felt safe didnt push me on the trails.
There is a test review on the new Stumpy on this site got to
mountain bikes then click mountain bikes and find the page
all on there.
Just go out and try as many as you can.
Good luck0 -
From what I understand teh Epic is a bit of a Marathon bike, maybe you'd be better with say a Stumpjumper?0

Bought an Epic 07 Expert in the end from nwmtb. Went out for a ride sunday through gisburn forrest to get used to and the bike was excellent. Only problem is this is my first bike clipless and I couldnt get used to unclipping. The comedy moments of stopping and then just falling to the side were quality. Bottled it a bit going down the tree routes due to the SPDs, I beleive its a case of perservere with them and ill get used to it. Was tempted to put flats back on.
Cheers for the comments.0 -
I've just gone back to flats for winter riding after 18 months of comedy falls whenever it got muddy in my local woods, so don't rule it out.
Hope you enjoy your new bike!0 -
