Saw this on a Glowgadgets newsletter. Looks quite an interesting idea - pedals with lights embedded which are powered by your cadence:

Might be a bit bulky and no SPD version (yet), but I imagine a worthy addition to a kids bike!

I got a set of these for Christmas:

On the whole they were great in terms of visibility, but:
    1) There was no way of fitting toe clips and I could not get my foot to grip them so my feet kept slipping off and also lifting off on the upstroke.
    2) They are too bulky - a couple of times i scraped them pedaling around corners. Scary.
    3) One of the buttons on the left pedal stopped working properly so it would play it's little jingle on each push down and wouldn't change function.

Great idea (and pretty clever implementation - the pedal 'knows' which LED to turn on to display white to the front and red to the rear), but apparently lacking any test riding prior to release. I'd recommend them for a casual cyclist - 5/10

EDIT: Despite being battery powered, they were used 5 out of 7 days for 6 weeks with no obvious loss of brightness.

The Pedalite seems a better option - they certainly look smaller, and they sell toe clips for them too. There are a few places that sell 'em on the web - Doc certainly isn't the 1st guy to get his hands on them!
