So, I've been umming and ahhing for a while on a helmet cam, and I'm going to get one now, but which one?

I want it totally self contained, no wires, no extrusions, my commute is about an hour.

Is the ATC2K the only option if I don't want to spend more than about a hundred quid?

Yes. I have the ATC2000 and stopped using it for a long time in favour of my Archos. But recently I've put it on the bike and the batteries last for about 1 hour! Now I know why I stopped usiing it! I guess people are using rechargable batteries?

The quality of the video is not that great, BUT it was under £100. And these days I'd rather have it than not. I just need better batteries!

I get over 6 hours recording out of a set of high capacity duracell rechargeables from my ATC2000.

Got an ATC2K a few days ago. The picture quality is what I expected from a fixed focus camera at 800x600, same quality as my digital stills camera doing video, but at least I can adjust where the focus is on that.

The battery life I don't know about yet, the mounting method is what I expect from Oregon Scientific (spazzy) and it could do with a much better sound capture on it, also its bloody ridiculous that when the Mic is turned off that it still captures the sound track. Turning the sound off should disable sound recording in the CODEC as well thus saving a LOT of space and making the video last longer.

However, I can't afford a solid state recording video camera or remote camera for it so it will have to do me.

I suppose an alternative would have been to make a tripod-mount for my bike and helmet and buy a 50 quid Digital Stills capable of doing video. Not sure it would be rugged enough though.

Has anyone curious enough managed to defeat the rubber plug on the base and found out what is under it? Looks similar size to a tripod mount bolt.
