It is so easy to make a cock up (well if you are me!) so I am trying to make sure I am going to purchase the correct things that will fit together with no trouble. My queiries are-
Will the standard 1/8 steerer tube on a 454 Pike fit my 07 meta 5.5.1? and secondly Are all the pikes designed for disk brakes? Thirdly, after a bit of research and help from yourselfs I am tempted to buy- a hope pro11 20mm disk, dd comp s/s db spokes and mavic xm19 ust disk to go with the Pike. If there is any reason why these peices cannot be joined in Holy matrimony can you Please say now!

Many thanks jp

The pikes are designed to take disc brakes. The Meta has a 1 and 1/8th headtube.

Wheel choice is spot on if your going to be riding trails and light freeride. Just make sure you get them build by a good wheelbuilder, as it makes a lot of difference to strength and lifetime of the wheel.

  • Thanks Sir HC, Thats put my mind at rest. Now I better start wheeling, dealing and ebaying so I can get the stuff. I will have the wheels built by Merlin they seem to offer a real good deal as well as doing a tidy job so I am told!

Pikes are good forks i was going to buy the Orange 5 pro with them
but they make the 5 AM and the come with Fox Talas so buying that
    one.

But Pikes are great forks cant go wrong just have to wait a while
for them to bed in !

Try Leisure Lakes they offer 10% off when web ordered

I'ev got Pikes on my Pitch and they are superb, it's only a couple of rides until they feel really smooth
  • I've just had my pro11/xm819 wheelset re-tensioned after 2 years of abuse. They were perfectly true, but had just lost tension. On a related issue, and picking up on some other threads on wheels, you could also consider blowing a few extra £ on Sapim cxray spokes. If nothing else, they will give the wheels a much more distinctive / crossmax image.

Pikes are a fine fork, and come highly recommended but I have never riden them so can't help you there. I'm happy with my custom valved 07 Talas 36 RC2's & PUSH'd RP3 on my Reign ! Wedded Bliss !

    Good luck
  • Thanks for your reply very handy!
