isnt it amazing that cipo can get third on a stage of a top pro race on a basic aluminium frame that you could probably buy for Stg £200 as opposed to a top carbon frames which cost over £2000

Proves it is the training that counts so invest in your training and forget that new flashy bike

Was it a basic Aluminium bike though?

Di Luca won the Giro with an Alu Bianchi as well didn't he? And those frames aren't cheap.

Not sure how 'basic' it is !

There does appear to be lots of rumours going round as to who's made the frame and what exactly it is. He does like his creature comforts though, running different wheels/groupset etc to the rest of the team.... Fair play, it obviously works for him...

you can buy a triple butted planet x aluminium bike with carbon fork for £200
I realise cios bike could be expensive but I bet it is still a third of the price of the de rosa frame that the rest of his team is on at least

£1200 for a top notch Aluminium frame.

Just because you can get a cheap planet X Al frame for £200 doesn't mean every Al frame will cost the same.

In the end there's not much difference between a top end Al frame and a top end Carbon frame, Carbon is only more expensive because it's carbon, not because it's necessarily better. The De Rosas are only worth that much money because "De Rosa" is written on the frame.

didnt know any aluminium frame cost that much!!!

looks like cipos bike could be his old specialized frames slimilar to E5 s works

I was interested to see this as I was thinking of switching back to aluminium from carbon myself as I preferred the lively feel of the aluminium which you dont seem to get from carbon

Cipo never rode a real Specialized - instead he had De Rosa build him a bike to his spec that was painted and badged to look like a Specialized.

...the irony...now that his team mates are on De Rosas

That would be the aluminium frame attached to the £2.5k Lightweight wheels?

Shimano? Cipo is supposed to be the Euro god, and he's got Shimano? Even his team mates have got Campag.

Still can't help but think that the Rock Racing kit is a mix between a Power Ranger and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle....

Yes, i thought that was quite funny that Cipo had specced dura ace on his steed. Counters the argument that says pros on Shimano only use it because its who sponsors them. Cipo obviously just prefers it.

Now I thought Di Luca won the giro on a Cannondale

Yeh, you are right. But he did ride an Alu Bianchi in 2006 for the Giro.

I don't think for a moment that Cipo was on any aluminium frame. This is 'Super Mario' a man who has hundreds of pairs of shoes, questionable taste at times but a seasoned Pro. I'll plump it was a custom thing from Billato or De Rosa, but he chooses to wear Spesh helmet and use their tyres so maybe it was an older bike repainted, altho his white TT bike was De Rosa for the opener wasn't it

Oh, Cycling News say it was a custom jobbie
his frame was built by Simone Carlesso of Bassano del Grappa, Italy, the same person who built his bikes when Cipollini rode for the big 'S'.

Nice to see Cipo is safety concious with his hi-viz vest
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Is it just me or does anyone else think his suprise return on a "Cippolini" marked bike may be connected with a new bike business he's planning?
