Pollok Park - Anywhere else apart from the trails?

Are there any natural trails in Pollok Park? The man-made trails are ok but very short and I was wondering if there was anything a bit more interesting.

  • Since the trails were built most of the natural ones that existed have stopped being used by most folks and are a bit overgrown but you can still find them if you look.

If you try the green loop, at the corner where you turn back to head back to the start, don't turn but keep going straight on instead (the route used to be blocked off but some nice folks have removed the branches) - this one is easier to spot and follow but not always fully rideable. If you follow it all the way it brings you out at the steps just above the car park. You can use this as your start point too. Not very long but challenging enough for your technical skills. Enough people still walk their dogs along this route that it is reasonably defined.

Also a fave with dog walkers (so watch out!) are the old trails in the wood above the Burrell. One of these starts opposite the shelter at the top of the hill (on the other side of the path) and takes you through the wood with a couple of options to loop back or finish out on the pathway at the bottom of the hill where the carved seat is.

And a 'secret' little one that is very short but good fun can be found if you cycle up the hill at the front of Pollok House. You can continue straight on and down the other side of the hill or...just before the top of the hill turn left into the bushes (you will see the s-shaped track even if a bit overgrown) which lets you have a short high speed blast back down to the pathway.

Look around the woods in the park and you find useable trails most places.

As always with pollok Park though, ride in the expectation that their is a dog off the leash and a stroppy dog-owner around every corner!
  • Also remember that there is a herd of deer living in the woods in the quieter bits.
  • Yeah, there's a lot of natural trails criss corssing around and across the north wood (the highest area of the park), there's a few fun wee downhills and a couple of testing, short climbs that you can make some good loops out of, just explore, they're not that hard to find.

Aswell as dog walkers though, this area is quite often used by horse riders during the day.

There's alos a couple of drops/jumps in the area of the blue route too.
