Hi again problem solving forum goers

Got a really strange problem with my track bike, I recently dropped the forks out and changed the headset (ahead type) The original was m-part and I fitted a Cane Creek S2 1", the forks are alloy with a plain alloy steerer. Ever since I fitted the new headset and re-installed the forks and adjusted them so they are nice and smooth with no play after a couple of turns left and right on the bars the whole front end becomes tight and gritty and tightens itself up until there is no movement :?:

Please help I'm at the end of my tether   :?

TIA
Regards

  • Hi by the sounds of it you either have te headset put in back to front,or your missing a vital part of your headset. 8)

If you believe that everything is assembled in the right order, there are a few problems to consider: the crown race is not seated squarely on the forks; the cups aren't seated squarely in the headtube; the headtube isn't square (unlikely if the last headset was OK), the fork steerer is bent (again unlikely if it was OK with the previous HS)
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Cheers Monty  I will run through this check list and see how I get on
