Front Changer Annoyance

Hi
Any tips on setting up a front changer so that it is easy to access all the gear combinations without the chain rubbing on the front changer?
I'm using Shimano 105 9 speed and I know about the little half click to adjust the front slightly but however I set it up I'm forever swapping between the 39 and 53 chainrings to get the gear I want without the chain rubbing. The biggest problem I have is getting a combination of 39 and the 5th and 6th sprocket down on the cassette, which I thought would be the smoothest and most trouble free, apparently not.
Thanks in advance.

You won't get all the combinations to not rub. big/big and little/little will probably always rub.
But you should be fine with say the 7th sprocket and the big ring, and the 3rd sprocket with the little ring. Just use the limiting screws on the front derailler to adjust it.
(Assuming a 9spd system, and the 11/12 sprocket is the 1st sprocket.)

Sheldon Brown (RIP) should tell you all you need to know to adjust the front derailler.0 -
Thanks for the link reddraggon.
Think I'll start from scratch and follow the instructions which will hopefully cure most of the problem.
