  • just bought a scia top. very nice but think assos might nudge castelli. beware when buying without trying castelli stuff on - it is a very small fit. i'm usually size S but needed to get an L for the scia.

They are aiming for the Assos market in pricing but trying to be themselves. their Corsa Rosso stuff is v.nice as is that £200 espresso jkt. Saddleback are the importers. I've only seen the kit in Cyclefit but it's nice, well-made and no-one else is wearing it

Both Wiggle and Parkers seem to be offering good prices on Castelli at the moment i.e.20%+ discount on rrp.

I have Castelli Squadra team kit. It's really good. The bibs are great, and have the KISS chamois. I really like the long sleeve top. On the other hand, my previous shorts were from Hofer (i.e. Aldi)...

Assos is Assos, Castelli is Castelli. I wouldn't say Castelli has the quality and durabilityof Assos, but their stuff is very nice all the same. I almost bought some Castelli winter kit couple of months ago ie.Espresso jacket, but the Assos kit is soo nice, I have been wearing Assos for the past 4 years and once you experience it, the money isn't important. But the quality is. Both makes come up small so always best to try before you buy.

The most important thing with bike kit is you shouldn't notice it when you're wearing it, has to be natural and well fitting.

  • I bought a long sleeve Lancelot jersey from Worldcycling in the US and had shipped it over last year. Given the exchange rate and tax it was about £45, as at the time no one in the UK was stocking Castelli. It's brilliant, I've worn it most of the winter as my first choice jersey, but I still don't think we're seeing the full rangeof clothing or the value.

Castelli is every bit as good as Assos. I have a fair amount of their kit and have been delighted with all of it. I buy mine from Comobike which makes it cheaper than Assos by some margin. Sizing is small though. I have a 32 waist but need Large in bibs and jersey's.
I also much prefer the look of Castelli, it's not as little britain as a lot of the Assos stuff.

So is Castelli sizing similar to Assos sizing?

So if you take L in Assos, L in Castelli would be about right?

I only have a Castelli jacket - the spunto windproof soft shell - and I take a large in that and my Assos jackets. The summer jerseys are deffo sized for the Italian racing snake so be careful there! I also have a pair of their winter gloves, not sure which model but the retail was around £55 (not what I paid!), and they are the best I've had. Soft, lightweight feel but very warm.

The jacket is good down to about 2 degrees but on days like today, minus 2 in town/minus 4 outside town, then the Fugu jacket is the daddy!

I have to say that although the Assos fit remains te best I've tried I think the quality isn't what it used to be. Possibly down to the shift in manufacture from Switzerland to somewhere else?

I am impressed with Castelli though and will probably try a pair of their shorts come the summer if they make a pair with a style I can live with as they do have some kit that is really only suitable for employees of Billy Smart's Circus! :D

Strictly speaking Assos is aiming at a slice of Castelli's market given that the latter is the older of the two brands and has a far more distinguished history in bike racing.

I've a few pairs of Dome Due bibs, Prologo FZ jerseys, Thermoflex knee warmers and Gregario bib longs from Castelli. All seems like good quality stuff and the KISS pad in the bibs and longs is superb. I much prefer the KISS pad to that in the Campag Heritage bibs.

I'd definely try the stuff before I bought though. Despite both pairs of large Dome Dues being a perfect fit I take a medium in the Gregarios.
