'escape group of 18' including 3 of his teammates - you'd hope he could win from there, and this doesn't seem to be too high a level of competition ?

At least, when comes time to choose the cyclist of 2008, I will no longer have my "he didn't even win a bloody race!" card to play. Touché, Cadel, touché.

Wow! Petacchi stayed with a 20-man group on hilly terrain to win stage 3. I'm impressed. I'll remember this when time comes to place bets for MSR.

That must be some slope they are riding up.............one of the team cars get stuck on the finish timing mat and has to be pushed over the line. Awesome.

Reminds of the stage in last years Giro where the riders just had enough left to get over the line and then had to be pushed or fall over.

As far as I remember, he served his ban but is still appealing the decision to the CAS. So he can not be stopped from racing, as his sentence has been served, which is why he wasn't at the Tour last year.

  • He seems to be flying, but this is worrying from cycling news.

Petacchi's racing season may come to a halt if the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) has its way. It is requesting its rider be suspended due to high-level of Salbutamol in a test result following stage 11 of last year's Giro d'Italia. CONI's appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is set for April 2.

But he served a ban, no? Or was it just the "under investigation" part that kept him out of most of the mid-summer racing?

I was under the impression he'd served the sentence but he was appealing the decision. It would seem he got off after a few months of investigation and that CONI is appealing. My head hurts.

Give Evans a break........oh he never attacks, oh he never wins. He worked hard in the group (read the race reports!), then attacked and won the stage. Simple...credit where credit is due. If your rationale is that he won simply because he had two teammates in the group, then why didn't someone from Caisse d'Epargne, Quickstep or Saunier Duval win?? Each of these teams had more than one rider in the group.................
