After a chain for my race bike...
Was looking at the normal contenders ie Shimano Dura Ace/XTR and SRAM PC991
But is there anything out there that would be an alternative - I am not worried about powerlink as this bike (my race one) gets used more on fire roads, road etc with light XC duties so me breaking the chain is unlikely - just need it to be light
It's going to be used with XTR drive train..
Only want to spend about £35 max

Not much weight to be saved here.I`ve always got on really well with the SRAM PC991.The Powerlink is so easy to use,it makes you more likely to take the chain off for a proper clean, which has got to be a good thing for longevity of your wholedrivetrain.2006 Giant XTC

This is true - as I said it was one of the original contenders.
Funnily enough I was talking to Matthew at Middleburn the other day and we had a lengthy chat about chains, chainrings and love, the universe and everything.... he reckons that pound for pound the best chain out there is the Dura Ace/XTR.....
The powerlink is good, and does make cleaning your chain a lot easier though!0 -
shimano ultegra chain, bought one not to long ago and its really nice, dead smooth and cleans up nicely after a mud session0

I use a XTR chain on the Anthem which works fine.
For my next chain I might try a SRAM with the useful powerlink, but also ROHLOFF chains have had good things said about them. Streako

I got a PC991 hollow pin (to reduce weight even further, not that 20g makes a huge difference) from Wiggle a couple of weeks ago, £ 34.99 or £ 27.99 for an unboxed one. I got the unboxed one, came in a sealed, branded plastic box with instructions :?:It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -

What I have on my XTC (though mine is gold - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=25420) and it's an absolute beauty. Will save serious weight as well.0 -

Sorry to hijack a thread
The little shimano connecting pins, can they be reused?
SRAM powerlink can they be used with shimano chains?
What option do I have for rejoining a shimano chain regularly/emergency?

You need to buy new Shimano joining pins, each time you break a Shimano chain otherwise, buy yourself a powerlink, and save the hassle. Can be bought £1.99,just make sure you get the correct width, for 8 or 9 speed.
I am normally a fan of everthing Shimano, but my chAin will always be SRAM.2006 Giant XTC
