Does going tubeless really save that much weight?

From what i've figured out it's more about the non-puncturing effect that solution has on your ride.

but then again I haven't had a puncture in 6 months so I don't know

(cue eleventeen punctures next time out  )

It supposedly also gives lower rolling resistance as the tire and tube are not in contact causing friction.

A bit of weight saving (100g an end at most), but the real positive is the puncture resistance, the comfort and smoothness.

Without the tube inside, the tyre can flex more easily, improving traction and comfort. Tyres really feel different when you've gone tubeless!

Not to mention the weight loss in your back pack  no more spare tubes and puncture repair kits to carry

Excuse my ignorance but can't tubeless tyres still get punctures? What do you do then?

Yes they can puncture. I use Stans gunk but also carry an inner tube just in case . With the UST set up you simply remove the tubeless valve and then you can run as a normal tubed tyre.

I just carry the one tube. For the last 6 months I've had no reason to use it

Better still, ride with tubed-mates and if you need a tube, borrow one of theirs!

Since I've gone tubeless I've saved the weight of three tubes, a patch kit, two tyre levers and my CO2 inflater along with three cartridges! My back-packs never been so light!!
