Hi, Just found that my Shimano LX inner and outer chain rings are getting past their best after 12 months of riding the bike most days and abusing it at weekends, and was wondering what to replace them with or are Shimano LX the best I am going to find for the money?
This is why!

From what I've read you don;t get much better shifting than Shimano rings/crankstes.

Deore LX rings are pretty cheap on www.chainreactioncycles.com
  • All XC & Single track, none of this jumping or DH madness, old skool me. I don't mind paying for something that will last, like I said I'm happy with the LX ones but if there is something better for similar money then I'll take a look at those, not to interesting in saving a few grams if it means paying 4x as much, I can always get a drill out and drill the rings to save weight if I am bothered!
    This is why!
  • Those in the know will tell you that Shimano rings whilst they provide great shifting are actually made of a rather soft cheese (ie they don't last long) 12 months is good going.

Replace them with either Raceface or middleburn rings in a 104 bcd and it will be money well spent, they last for ever, provide great shift and lok pretty cool too.
  • i'd go for middleburn SS hardcoat rings, last forever and have excellent shifting. Or get deore steel ones.
