So, the gf has gotten a second hand trek 7000, how can i ensure the bike is comfortable and confidence inspiring for her to ride?
don't want her having any reason to hate mountain biking due to equipment

I've just helped set up my missus's bike for her, a few of my mates seem to have done the same things to recently mainly:
1. See how comfy she finds the bike first
2. Change the stem for a short stubby stem (height and bike size dependent) but 50mm seems to work
3. Change the grips for some thin ones which work better for smaller hands eg ODI ruffians or Sunlines
4. Put some flat pedals like DMR V8's on
5. Possibly change the saddle
6. Get her some padded shorts or undershorts and gloves
7. Make sure the bike works well!http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/1994177/

Same with anyone, set up due to her preference. may need lighter weight springs in the forks0
