Brake / Gear Cables for new 'best bike' build

I use Transfil Mudlovers - they have an inner sheath that covers the cable in its entirety from lever to mech / brake, and completely erradicate water and muck ingress. I have commuted in all weathers with them for two years and they have been maintenance free. Transfil make some slightly swankier ones (just cosmetic I believe) for a few quid more.
You can get Transfil Flying Snakes which I believe have the same benefits of mudlovers, but have kevlar outers that save 30% of the weight, so maybe these are appropriate to a top flight bike.
I honestly can't see any benefit in spending much more, say for Gore-Tex, when these work so well.0 -
I've heard plenty of bad things about Nokons
Don't know if they work with STI but I use Gore Ride-Ons on all my bikes. Superlight shifting, good relaibility, fiddly to fit until you get the hang of it, and not that cheap. I haven't touched my all-weathers commuter in three years and it's still as smooth as day one.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -

Gore are producing the Ride on cables once more, very good by all accounts

Ive just replaced my Nokon gear cables with the Shimano SP41(same as dura ace!) cable they originally came with! as i had nothing but grief with them! as well as this the silver plating just flaked off them! Weight wise i think the Shimano gear cable is lighter too! Nevermind what Nokon say If you look at a lot of the pro's bike's they use them only for brakes and stick to Shimano cables for shifting! Save yourself some cash and fitting hassle!0
