Brough Superior manufactured a motorcycle with an Austin 7 engine and shaft drive that drove 2 close coupled rear wheels. It was intended for sidecar use but could be ridden as a solo according to contemporary reports. So ... nothing new under the sun, perhaps.

I suppose this is OK as a joke but I wonder how it handles ... and are punctures really that much of a problem? When Charles Lindberg's choice of a single engined aircraft for the first solo trans-Atlantic crossing was queried, he pointed out that if he had 2 engines there was twice the chance of an engine failure. I think this may have a similar problem - double the wheels - double the punctures

tyre drag and leaning it over in a corner, you're not just switching from 'rail' to 'rail' as it were, but from rail to two tyres to rail.

seen the length of the rear chain stay's?

can forget that for off road use. i've yet to have a puncture that i've picked up from the road this year

nipped the tube putting it back in tho.

What a joke, I've seen tandems with shorter wheelbases. Talk about a solution to a non-existant problem. The "genius" who invented this obviously never knew about the twin-tyre system for cars that was launched in a blaze of glory in the mid '80s. Ever seen one on the road? Nope, me neither.
A can of tyre weld would seem to be a somewhat more economical answer.

  • I remember seeing double wheeled bikes that had been specifically built for a long haul race on snow, but they were a damned sight prettier than that bodged heap.

I remember a neighbour having a double rear wheeled road bike when I where but a lad some 40+ years ago. So it's not a new idea
