What's the difference between a trail bike and an enduro one? I want to go full sus and need a bike that can handle fairly rough stuff (not big drops mind) with a 17 stone rider on. Any ideas?

There is no clear definition. Depending on the manufacturer, you will see bikes of similar specs be called trail, enduro, backcountry or some other description.
  • I think the main difference is suspension travel and therefore weight.

Then again, All mountain is 120-140mm travel, Enduro is over 150mm, at least that's what all the hype seems to be telling me. Not sure where trail fits into this picture though
I'm sure that rattling will go away...

The Enduro is for more big stuff ence the longer travel 6 inch plus

Your riding is the same as mine and youll need a trail bike
one you can go anywhere with and be able to ride.

Ive just ordered the Orange 5 AM bit of an over kill but a bike
thats very light and a single pivot bike that gets top marks from
    every magazine.

I will add an extra ring for the cranks set to make more cross country
but with the extra travel i can fly down with no probs along the way.

Best thing is to try as many bikes as you can

Check out Orange web site they have all the press reviews on there
    on the five

The enduro bikes will be just to heavy to be honest by around 4lbs
if not more compared to my Orange 5 thats 28lb in weight.

Let us know how you get on
