Me and a mate are going up to do the North Face Trail at Grizedale tomorrow (16th), just wondering if anyone has been recently and what the trail conditions are like?
We should be up at the visitor centre for 0830. We're a couple of 'portly' gentlemen, me on my Orange 5, my mate on his Carrera Fury. Say hello if you see / pass us!

Conditions are nearly always good there. Did the North Face a few weeks ago in the middle of rainy January and it was ok, so should be excellent now. Enjoy that last descent!0

Bullet, your mate wouldn;t happen to be called Keith would he?0

Sounds good, hope the weather stays fine, really looking forward to it!
STEVE_B77 - Yep, Keith it is, do we know each other? :shock:0 -
He sits next to my missus (Jen) at work and she mentioned that Keith the lad who sits next to her is into MTB'ing and is going to Grizdale this weekend, also that he was from Crewe.
So me being the genius that I am, considered the facts and concluded that you were infact his mate 8)0 -
Ha! Yep, i got in touch with Keith last night and made the connection, it's a small world!
Had a fantastic time up at Grizedale today, the weather couldn't have been better.
There had been a frost though and the north shore bits were slippy as f*@k!
Got some pics so i'll try and post a link later on.
STEVE_B77 - Now is a good time to try and press gang you into this - http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... t=12554697

I live just by the forest. I suggest that if you enjoyed it during the day, then you would truely love it during a full moon. Maybe wait for the ice to clear, but seriously, it is fantastic at night.
I go out at night to avoid the madding crowd. I put lamps on my dogs who know the track well enough to lead and ligt the way. they even tackle the timber bits without hessitation now. Great stuff. 8)A bike is for life not just for xmas0 -
Like huskey racing without the sled0

That sounds like a fantastic idea. :P
I've never done a night ride before i reckon that would be a good route to do as a starter.
I might leave it a couple of months though until the weather gets a bit warmer, my head hasn't thawed out from the weekend yet.0 -
Hi,
I was up there last year. i love that trail . Did you do the extension out accross the the flls from the south tip and back alongside Conniston? it's a lovely extension of you fancy giving it a try.
Whoever is in picture 2 should kill the photographer - does them no justice at all lol.
Seriously though, looked great weather. Wish I'd had a clear day like that. I bet some of the North Shore was interesting with frost on it though - especially that tight circle about 2 thirds round. Like someone mentioned earluer, I hope you enjoyed the final decent0 -
Oi! That's my big fat ass in picture 2! I'm built for comfort, not speed. :P
Didn't know about the extension around Coniston, got any links to a route map?0 -

Did that route a few weeks back after all the rain, water past my knee`s going over the moors. Rode most of it but had to get off in some places and my bike didn`t like it much, but its all good fun. I`d leave it till we`ve had a dry spell before trying again, it`s always wet though.
Definately a worthwhile addition though.
