Hi,

I'm getting a new bike soon and narrowed my selection to those two:

1. Kona Paddy Wagon 2008 (http://www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp?style=86443)
2. Lemond Fillmore 2008 (http://www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp?style=71143)

Personally I like the look of Lemond:)
Now which shall I get? Any owners here? What shall I look for?
Oh - it's going to be used for commuting in Edinburgh:)

...or maybe I should try to build one?

Thanks!

Daniel

  • Try to ride em both and get the one you prefer. Neither will be a bad bike.

Buidling is fun and you will know your bike inside out but it will take twice as long as you think and cost more than an off the peg machine

  • +1 on the build option
  • ...build option... as you can see my budget is around £500 pounds. Can anyone quckly improvise a wee spec? :) What I can get for this price? Just started to research about frames, forks etc. so it's a learning process to me:)

I can start with the frame:)

Kinesis Crosslight Pro 5 Frame £299
    Kinesis Crosslight 3 Fork £62.99

£500 gets you a fully specced Pompino Pro, a Condor is just over £600. The Genesis Skyline is cheaper.

  • you will struggle to spec a self-build for £500 I think with all new parts

off the top of my head

    frame & forks £150
    wheels £100
    brakes £50
    chainset £50
    Pedals £15
    Sprocket £15
    Chain £15
    seatpost £15
    saddle £30
    Stem £20
    handlebars £20
    tyres & tubes £40
    tape £10

    =£530

scour eBay and the classifieds however, or raid your parts bin, and all bets are off

    Wheels £100? From where?

May go single myself on an existing bike

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Um, I *promise* I don't work for Edinburgh Bikes, but they do a discount on all parts or something similar if you build your bike with them...
