I had a pair of Easton slx and they were very good wheels spin up very quick and very strong. The only small problem ive heard about them is that the stickers sometimes tend to peel off, which supose isnt major!! The Easton wheels use to have velomax hubs which were pretty damn good. Now they have gone to eastons own hub which supose to be just as good, with a slight weight saving..... Not as good as my shamal ultras though!!Up hup hup hup.....fricking hate that!0

I have a pair of tempest 2's. They are reasonable wheels. The hubs are good, and I have had no reliablity issues. They are fine to get tyres on and off.
They give a slightly harsh ride, but they feel faster than my Ksyriums.
Having said all that, i am going to ditch both and get a set of the new Dura Ace wheels.0 -
Talk about good timing! Easton are doing a Test Centre Program at various dealers around the UK at the moment where you can actually test ride their wheels before you buy.
You will find details on page 31 of the current issue of C+ or on Extra UK's web site at http://www.extrauk.co.uk0 -
i rode a pair of Kyrium SL's for a few hundred k's b4 selling them
now i have a pair of Easton SL's. I went for the SL's as i wanted the extra spoke count as i use the wheels as winter trainers (though they're light enough for hills too).
Big thumbs up for me.. . They feel as good as the SL's are are more than 100£ cheaper.0 -
Steve, I have owned these wheels for near enough 2 years and have found them to be very good. I have never owned Mavic wheels so can't offer you a comparison. However they roll extremely well, will spin forever and a day when the bike is on the workstand, have stayed true despite a lot of miles and some biggish hits and they have an excellent finish. I personally have never had a problem with the stickers as mentioned by someone.
There is however a BUT to all this. They are the only wheel I know that use twin threaded spokes. If you break a spoke ( I know Easton claim that is very difficult but I recently did) it may prove to be a tough job replacing it. My LBS, a very well known shop, said " a twin thread spoke, whats one of those" when I asked for a replacement. Once explained they got a spare in 2 days and sorted the problem. Depending on how proactive your LBS is and if they stock Easton products you may not have a problem or you may find it a long and drawn out affiar. The upshot of all this is that my LBS now carries spare spokes just for me. Given the choice I would probably go with the SL or SLX Easton wheels as these use traditional spokes.
If you decide you must have the Tempest II, they are after all a great wheel, at least look into how easy replacement spokes will be for you to get hold of or if you are the kind of person to cross that bridge when you come to it then just buy them and enjoy.https://www.bikeauthority.cc/
