They're afraid Contador's going to turn up guilty from Puerto halfway through the TDF.

Explain why Valv.piti is still there then?

And why they said Contador could take part if he rode for a different team?

In very broad terms donrhummy is kind of right - ASO wants to reduce the risk of nasty surprises this year. And wouldn't it be funny if Valv.piti turned out to be someone other than Valverde? I know, I know, pigs will fly first but still.
You just have to ride like you never have to breathe again.

I agree...ASO must have known the files were to be reopend and reacted ...but in that case will Valverde's team be invited?

I'm another who was thinking the same thing. ASO was suppose to announce the teams for Paris-Nice along with the route next Tuesday. Instead they pushed up the team announcement to the day before the announcement of the Puerto reinvestigation.

On the other hand, you could also argue that ASO didn't want the exclusion of Astana to be linked to Contador... at least in the publics eye.

That's exactly it. They know they have no valid reason to exclude Contador but they at least have an argument (one I disagree with) to exclude Astana, the team he's under contract with.

    Really ???

You might be right, you might be wrong, but if we ever do find the truth about Puerto, we'll find whether or not they have reasons to exclude him...

It's their event and they can invite who they like, I can't see it's that much of a big deal that they didn't invite Astana.

I don't think ASO have anything to worry about as by the time the Spanish judiciary release any information they hold it will be 2010.
