Pro Tour Pundit 2008

The UCI may have cocked up the actual Pro Tour, but fear not, the Bikeradar Pro Tour Pundit is back for another season!

How to Play

For those who have never played before, the concept is an easy one: test your punditry skills against other forum members by correctly picking the riders you think will win the year's most prestigious races (and a few not-so-prestigious races chucked in for good measure).

A few days before an upcoming race, look out for a new thread with a title like "PTP - *Race name*" Just stick your choice in there, and if it's a stage race, make sure to post your stage winners too. You don't have to register or anything like that - if you're a Bikeradar member, you can play PTP.

Calendar

After much procrastination, the races included in this year's competition are:
Feb 17-24 - Tour of California

Mar 1 - Het Volk
     9-16 - Paris-Nice
    12-18 - Tirreno-Adriatico
       22 - Milan-San Remo
    29-30 - Criterium International

Apr 6 - Tour of Flanders
7-12 - Tour of the Basque Country
        9 - Gent-Wevelgem
       13 - Paris-Roubaix
       20 - Amstel Gold Race
       23 - La Fleche Wallone
       27 - Liege-Bastogne-Liege
    29- 4 - Tour de Romandie

May 10- 1 - Giro d'Italia

Jun 8-15 - Dauphine Libere
    14-22 - Tour de Suisse

Jul 5-27 - Tour de France

Aug 2 - Clasica San Sebastian
        9 - Olympic RR
       13 - Olympic ITT
    20-27 - Eneco Tour
    29- 6 - Deutschland Tour
    30-21 - Vuelta a Espana

Sep 15-21 - Tour of Poland
       24 - Worlds ITT
       27 - Worlds RR

Oct 12 - Paris-Tours
       18 - Giro di Lombardia

Points System

I've also tinkered with the points system this year, dispensing of the "class a" and "class b" of single-day races that the UCI used in the past. Okay, I know winning San Sebastian is not the same as winning Paris-Roubaix, but it's less complicated if the points are the same for both races.

The grand tours offer greater rewards for good punditry, but all the other races throughout the season use the same points.
TdF = Tour de France / G/V = Giro/Vuelta / Reg = Regular season

     TdF | G/V | Reg
---------------------
 1 | 100 | 85 | 50 |
 2 | 75 | 65 | 40 |
 3 | 60 | 50 | 35 |
 4 | 55 | 45 | 30 |
 5 | 50 | 40 | 25 |
 6 | 45 | 35 | 20 |
 7 | 40 | 30 | 15 |
 8 | 35 | 26 | 10 |
 9 | 30 | 22 | 5 |
10 | 25 | 19 | 2 |
11 | 20 | 16 | |
12 | 15 | 13 | |
13 | 12 | 11 | |
14 | 10 | 9 | |
15 | 8 | 7 | |
16 | 6 | 5 | |
17 | 5 | 4 | |
18 | 4 | 3 | |
19 | 3 | 2 | |
20 | 2 | 1 | |

During stage races, there are points awarded for picking daily winners too:
TdF | G/V | Reg
---------------------
 1 | 10 | 8 | 3 |
 2 | 5 | 4 | 2 |
 3 | 3 | 2 | 1 |

Finally, here's a list of past winners. As you can see, yace is the BR version of Carlos Sastre!

Another race, another new leader. This time it's iain who takes the lead after a solid performance in P-N. However, he looks unlikely to score big in Tirreno-Adriatico, so we may have yet another new leader in just a few days time.

But its not half as good as winning bragging rights on the forum.

I think it's the more the merrier. The current leader does even race bikes, he's a hockey player with quite limited knowledge. He did wear a yellow shirt to work today, though, as befits his status.

Another correct prediction from scwxx77 in today's Amstel Gold. For those keeping track, that was the 11th PTP race of the year, and scwxx77's 6th winning prediction. Impressive... and now his lead is out to 68 points. That's an entire race in hand!
