Hi forum people..

This will be a quickie for someone... what width bottom bracket do I need to use with a Shimano 105 octalink double chainset (FC-5501) and a steel frame with a standard 70mm bottom bracket shell?

TIA

  • 70mm isn't a standard BB shell width. :?

According to Sheldon the 105 octalink double uses a 109.5mm BB. 70mm shell sounds a bit weird though. Are you sure it's not 68mm?
  • guys you saw the error before I did  the shell width is the standard 68mm of course, can't be exactly sure where I got 70mm from...? :? please forgive me - time for a lie down in a darkened room i think

  • 70mm is an Italian BB shell width make sure you get the right BB as the threads are different. 68mm is a BS thread. Check!

  • ok thanks I thought I must have read it somewhere, my other bike is a Daccordi which has a Chorus bottom bracket and I know that to be Italian, whereas the Shimano c/set is going on my other bike, it is a raleigh special products reynolds frame - I would imagine that is enlish thread.

Shall we say 109.5mm english then?
