Hi All,

Well, I finally did it. I have a 1000 quid letter of collection from cycle to work.......what do I buy? I already run an Ambrosio flat bar for commuting (pretty light and quick!) and fancy a good road bike: Looking at PLanet X Carbon SL or a Boardman Team, maybe even a PBK Team......Want a summer commuter and racer.

Any thoughts or prior knowledge a help!

Cheers

I've done nearly 3000 miles on my Focus Cayo and absolutely love it. After owning a few other makes of bike, I think I will stick to Focus in the future, they're such good value for money.
  • If you want it primarily for commuting with a bit of racing thrown in and are prepared to consider other than carbon, I'd suggest having a look at the Condor Acciaio. Very, very happy with mine and it's about the price you suggest (Condor does the scheme, although my employer doesn't  )
  • Aye??? You got a £1000 collection letter from work YET you dont know what you are going to buy?

Sounds like a waste of money as you now HAVE to spend that much regardless of what you want. Would have made more sense to find a bike you wanted, then get the letter and only pay for what you need?

    Hi Mailman,

I did, but planet X won't deal with Halfords at the moment.....kinda stuffed.
  • Oh, bugger! :)

Why wont planet x deal with halfords? They afraid the Halfords staff will tarnish their image or something? If so, arrogant buggers!

From what Ive read it appears halfords werent making a penny out of the planet x bikes, planet x realised this and offered halfords a better deal, halfords ignored the offer, then months later demanded a good will payment to make up for the fact that they hadnt been making any money on the bikes. Planet X refused to make the good will payment as the deal the offered earlier had been ignored, and halfords said they wouldnt sell their bikes anymore.

At least thats as far as I understand it.

Planet X do their own Bike to work, can you not use their scheme?
