40gms, a red spoke and about £200. They aren't worth it imo. lots of discussions on here about Ksyriums. Personally I'd get/have Neutrons

    The cycling plus description:

"The ES has litlle in common with their previous flagship SL model and sports a number of refinements including a lighter, shallower-section, 18/20 hole rims for lower eciprocating mass and carbon-bodied carbon bearing hubs with wider flanges, and fewer spokes. While this is not the lightest wheel on test, the latest refinements make a small but noticeable difference when climbing and heavy riders noticed the improvements more than others. While we continue to have issues with the repairability of machine-built wheels like the Ksyrium, this is nevertheless one of the best wheels we've ever tested but at a price."

oh and they're prettier. as for which to go for... I chose based on what I like the look of. so I got a set of ES's :)

I got a set of SLs which are fine and wouldn't consider the ESs due to spoke breaking and other issues I have heard of. Notice Mavic don't produce them anymore, or at least they're not on their site.

They're now superseded by ksyriums with asymmetric rear rims.

wellllll if you can live with that extra 40g :)
  • Are we talking about the SL Premiums? They're real nice but pretty heavy. If you get them from total cycling you can get the ES for £1 more at £565

  • Pro bike kit are knocking them out very cheap at the moment! I just got some ES's to replace my 2002 SL's and have found them to be much the same climbing wise but a big improvement in descending!
  • How much are the cheapest Ksyriums? Why? Because Decathlon currently have one of their bikes,in the sale for £489 with Ksyriums. Seems that you are buting the wheels and getting, the rest of the bike for free!
