Particularly aimed at the Cornish riders, I am currently in the process of arranging a ride over Dartmoor with Kim & Steve from the Yogi group.

It will take place on 23rd March (so plenty of notice)

Looking to meet Princetown / Postbridge, leaving 11am
For anyone that knows the area, it will probably be a 'Five Stepping Stones' route (????)

Ride will take around 4hrs (iro 2.5hrs riding) and plan to do around 20 miles.

Distance & time will largely depend on the group

Please post your interest.

    Hi all,

Sorry about this but Steve Clare (from YOGi's) has got the date mixed up, the ride will be on Sunday 30th March

    Hope that's okay with everyone.

  • Sounds good to me.... will this be at an average pace, as my lad Danny (14yrs) would like to come along as well. He's pretty fit and was lapping in 24 mins at Newnham yesterday, but can't keep up with his old man yet :lol::lol:

So long as it's yer typical trail ride, then we'll both be there.... 8)

    Cheers,

    Greg

We don't really want to put anyone off joining us but this will be quite a tough ride. It's difficult to say whether your son would be okay or not as we've never cycled with him before. Some 14 year olds are stronger than others and vice versa. It's really a question of endurance.

As a guide we generally average about 9-10mph on our off-road rides for experienced riders.

We are running our next FUN MTB Ride on Saturday 1st March - meeting place yet to be confirmed. Distance probably no more than 16 miles.
  • 24 mins is very good going if it was anything like soggy bottoms 3 last year (its the only one i have done)

is anyone invited?? never been on a group ride before, am always going out on my own!

prince town is only about 6 miles from where i live.

  • I really like the sound of this - might be able to bring a couple along too.
My inlaws live very near Dartmoor so I know some of it quite well - superb terrain.
Also did some Forces training on it.

Just need to be careful if the weather turns - things can get quite serious there.

    It's in the diary.

Don't worry the guy who leads our Tuesday evening rides knows Dartmoor like the back of his hand but be prepared with a waterproof.

Keep checking our website for all the latest info. People are always welcome to join us, and that goes for anyone holidaying in the area, we're a friendly bunch.
  • Hi,
Both myself and my brother would be up for this :)

I've done this route twice now first on my own back in Sept (which was really 'interesting' ) got lost a bit in Bellever forest  but managed to find my way round eventually.
I did it a second time in Oct and dragged my brother along.

Its a good route with some technical bits. We couldn't ride it all, some bits where just beyond us.

From what I know of this route there is only the one bit over a stretch of moorland that could possible be a problem if the weather turned but your following a trail so its unlikely.

    Just bumping this up again.

Getting a little closer to the time now.

Would be nice if anyone is thinking of going to post saying so - particularly if not regular Yogi or Cornwall MTB riders.

Cornwall riders are having a beer the Fri before to discuss getting there etc.

Don't forget that the clocks go forward 1 hour on Saturday night.

If you plan on coming along can you PM me or leave a post on the YOGi website forum so that we can get an idea of the numbers joining us. Presently it looks like being around 20 riders.

There are a few people from Devon contacting me regarding this ride.

Please PM YOGI unless you are going up from Cornwall (then it's me)

Looking like this will be a BIG ride.

If anyone from the Cornwall gang needs a Hope QR lever for a Specialized bike (in black), it looks like I might accidentally be ending up with 2 (Ebay errors)!

Open to offers of food, small amounts of cash (!) or whatever!

Mark - errrmmm,, wasn't planning on filling the Camelbak with beer or anything...
Just a bit bored of drinking from a muddy frame mounted water bottle. :?

The forecast is bad but Steve Clare, who's set-up the ride assures me that it is going ahead no matter what the weather. However the intended ride may have to be adapted.

Make sure that you are dressed for wet and windy weather bearing in mind that this ride takes place on the exposed moor.

No worries - have all levels of weather protection for anything from "minging" to "armageddon"

    Looking forward to it. :D

  • Gonna have to back out of this weekend my brothers excuse is diy mine is that I don't fancy having to swim across the river crossings

Give your bikes a quick washdown with freshwater (use the tapwater from the toilets) straight after the ride that peaty mud is pretty corrosive.

I hope the rides a decent one.
  • Hey,

Sounds like an awesome ride. Hope no one minds if two more join?

Recently splashed out on a new rockhopper pro and keen to put it through it's paces.

How often do you all meet up to go riding? Hoping to get some weekday rides in now that evenings are getting brighter...

    Cheers!

Well what can I say. Great turnout of 30 riders with a superb attitude. Fantastic weather, I was almost sunburnt!

I expect there will be a few pics posted soon - the river crossings were fairly exciting.

Thanks to everyone that made it a great event and we look forward to the next event.
