Making gearin easier. Alter rear cassette or front chainring
I want to make my bike more suitable for extremely steep hills.
At present my lowest gear is 30X26.(triple with 12 to 26 rear cassette)Pretty low I know!
However I would like it to be even easier as I am doing a sportive with lots of steep hills (30% plus in places)
Is it better to add a bigger sprocket to rear cassette, say a 30 tooth?
Or is it better to changer inner ring at the front?
If adding a bigger (say 30 tooth) sprocket to rear cassette will the chain still move from 26 to 30 tooth in one step.
Any advice appreciated

A road triple chainset generally won't accept a smaller front chainring than 30 teeth - you'd have to fit an MTB crank otherwise which will also require a new bottom bracket but you could go as low as 22 teeth. I expect you've already got a long cage rear mech having got a triple, so fitting a different cassette is your easiest option.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

You can get a 13-29 Veloce Cassette.

You should be fine with the derailler, as you should already have the long cage one with a triple.
30-29 is pretty low gearing, should get you up pretty much anything.0 -
i JUST WANT TO BUY A SINGLE SPROCKET
CHEAPER
AND MY PRESENT CASSETTE IS NEWISH.
IF I BUY A 30 OR 29 SPROCKET IT WILL MEAN A JUMP FROM 26 TO 29 OR 30.
SHOULD THIS BE OK0 -
