As I've discussed previously on this forum I'm thinking about a huge career change and after trying racking my brain to try and find what career I want to change to I'm quite interested in setting up some sort of accommodation type facility in France. I was thinking that in the winter it could be used for skiing if it was in the alps. Does anyone think that this could be a good 'venture' and something which will make some money??? To be honest I'm not expecting mega bucks but I'm fed up and sick to death of my job and just need a bit of enjoyment along with a career!

Sounds the Idylic dream.Just be sure to do your research,& assess the marketplace and the amount of competition. To buy a property in this area won't be cheap,& the average British cyclist, whilst happy to splash the cash on the latest bike equipment, tends to be a bit thrifty when it comes to what I personally regard as the most important part of the equation, that is getting off to the Alps etc, rather than just reading about them.
Sorry if I sound a bit down,& I wish you all the best, just speaking from experience at club races etc, where cyclists moan about having to pay for a cuppa & cake
    so many cols,so little time!

I think cyclists like to be based in the valley or at the bottom of a climb where skiers like to be higher up.
So if you had a place in for example Les Deux Alps it would be great for skiing but cyclists would set off each day descending, The same vice versa. A place in the valley great for bikes but you'd be transporting skiiers upwards each day.
Cross country skiing is the next big thing. How about Latvia? Cheap property, cheap airlines, good cycling and x country skiing.
