Hi,
Going out on my first ride Sunday. I'll be taking the girlfriend and she hasn't riden for years so will be taking things easy.
Our first outing will be Cannock Chase and like I said just a leisurely stroll. What should I take with me tools or spares wise?
I don't want to take a rucksack full of stuff cos I've just shelled out 600 quid on a new bike, spending another small fortune on 'essentials' would be madness but what would be prudent? Tyre patches and a few allen keys maybe?
Would it be worth popping into the LBS and see if they do a starters kit or something like that?
Your advice would be appreciated.

I take a few bits but keeping it simple...
Pump
Spare innertube or self adhesive patches
Tyre levers
Couple of allen keys
Bottle of water
Chocolate bar
A couple of quid (for a butty)
Mobile fone
Waterproof or warm layer
And shove it in a rucksack!0 -
I have a bottle and a pump clipped to the frame, and then a bag clipped under the saddle. The bag normally contains:
-
Spare tube,
Multi-tool (allen keys and screwdrivers),
Combo spanner,
Spoke Key,
Tyre Levers,
Cable ties,
Puncure repair kit,
Rolled up fiver in a plastic bag,
Banana,
Choccy Bar,
Car keys!
Generally I've tried to resist carrying a rucksack, because they move around too much; but I'm now about to get a camelbak equivalent. I'm just not getting enough fluids into myself on rides, as it's tricky removing the bottle from the cage and drinking on singletrack. So that will all go into the camelback. Waterproof/warm layer is particularly useful in case of punctures/mechanicals if you are in the middle of nowhere!Proved by testing to be faster than a badger.
