hi all.
i was in halfords yesterday asking about changing my fork for a longer travel one.
i have an '07 aggressor xc3, which i know is warrantied to take a 130mm travel fork (as a higher spec aggressor (XCR) comes with a RS recon u-turn).
however, when i asked the bikehut guy about it, he said that because the frame is aluminium, he wouldnt go for a longer travel fork, as the frame couldnt take it. :?
is that right? im no expert, but im pretty sure that aluminium isnt that weak! (-besides, the XCR comes with recons and is aluminium...).
would a longer travel fork (i.e. tora 302 u-turn) be alright?
cheers

it will be fine. the U-turn will be great as it will allow you to dial in what feels right.
it the same frame uses a longer fork them no probs and th Halfords guy is not helping their image."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I fitted a set of Tora 302 U-Turns with lockout to my '07 Aggressor 2.0 XC and have run them at 115mm no worries, the bike still feels just fine and turns in just as well as with 100mm Darts on it.
Go for it mate0 -
The XCR is a different frame to the lower Aggressors (uses more butting), but will still take a 130 fork as they are older Avalanche frames. Its how they are made. If alu was that bad for long forks, then these people with 8inch DH forks are gonna have probs ;-)0

Halfords employ people that they can pay cheaply so I wouldn't take their advice as final.0

I got the halfords guy to fit a speedo on my roady and i needed to point out that he was riggin up the cable through the spokes. silly basket. he also tried to convince me that brake and gear housings are the same thing.Train hard, ride easy0

I had to rebuild a rear hub that had been "serviced" by Halfords last weekend. It had the wrong freehub on it, and the cones had been swapped to the wrong side so the dust seals had clearance, but didn't seal anymore. Oh, and the non drive axle spacers were outside the locking nut for good measure. The disc had been rubbing the caliper body too.
The poor owner must have been knackered trying to pedal against the drag. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.0 -
they do not help themselves do they!"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
