Folks,

I'm thinking of getting a 2007 Kona Hei Hei, they are going for around £1300 at the mo. I'm currently riding a 2004 Cinder Cone so i want to step up to the next level, plus a bit if possible.

Has anyone had any experience of the Hei Hei and what are your views?

I've read the review posted on here, i was just wondering if there were any personal views.

Cheers,
Danny

The Hei Hei is a light race XC racer, it won't be the most comfortable and forgiving of bikes and unless you particularly want a head down, light racer, I'd steer clear.

If you're coming from a Cinder Cone and doing general trails work, and you have to go full suss, and it has to be a Kona, you might be better off looking at the Kona Four series of bikes, if you're looking for something a bit more big hitting, the Kona Dawg.

    More requirements please :D

    Hi Zero,

I don't have to stick with Kona.

I'm looking at spending between £1000 and £1500 ish and i fancied going full sus, but i don't want to be getting anything really heavy. I've red a review about the Mongoose Canaan which sounds an interesting machine for £1000 but the reviews say the forks are a bit shoddy, so i was thinking about asking my local dealer if they could upgrade the forks :? I was initially looking at the Kona as i've read that it's a good light bike with a good spec. As far as the ride, i've had a look at the geometry and it's not too far from my cinder cone, at least it's not like the supreme withthe flat bars which it suggests is quite an extreme riding position.

It's a bit of a mine field around this price range theres that many out there.

Others i've looked at are the Specialzed Pitch, cannondale Prophet, the 'goose i menitioned before, specialized FSR's and the Trek Fuel's mhy head swirling

Pitch is a totally different bike though to the others.

I can recommend the pitch if you're gonna ride aggresivley and aren't bothereed about a bit of extra weight.

it's great at soaking up biggish hits and mild down-hill stuff, tabletops etc.

Just don;t expect to keep up with others on lighter, faster, steeper trail bikes

Cross the Pitch right off your list, think more FSRxc or Stumpy FSR from Specialized for the what you've described. The Pitch is a wicked bike, but you I suspect you'll feel 'over biked'.

It is a minefield but when you start getting to £1500, anything from the major players is going to good to a certain extent.

The Hei Hei is a lovely bike, the onyl thing that might annoy you is the SID forks...
