Mavic Crossride

At the beginning of January I replaced a worn out rear wheel with a Mavic Crossride. I chose the CR to match the frontwheel which was replaced 12mth plus ago, following a crash, and which has performed well. Within 2 weeks the new wheel had developed a minor buckle, even though I hadn't put it through any rough stuff. The LBS where I bought the wheel happily re-trued it but now it is buckled again. There was what sounded like contact with the V-brakes each revolution when riding, but when I looked it appears that there is clearance between the pads and the rims. Might the clicking / rubbing noise be coming from the hub bearings? Should I be asking for a replacement wheel rather than a repair? It wasn't the most expensive wheel in the world, but I expect better for £70.

bearings wear out.
but if something is not correct get it looked at.
are the pads adjusted corrctly? they are not rubbing on the tyre?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Wheel is only 1.5 months old, so hope that the bearings are not worn out.
Pads and brake arms both adjusted correctly - noise isn't coming from the rim unless there is significant wheel deformation while under pedalling load, which is guess is possible.0 -
as i said bearing wear out. winter time can kill them fast.
but back to the shop for diagnosis."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Mavic wheelsets use high clearance SKF bearings with fewer balls per race and light grease, and as a result, roll well, but don't like side loads. Which is why they have a preload adjuster on the axle. if the axle has been set up too tight against the inner raceway, they'll wear very quickly.
The freehub rotor body has a nylon bushing on the insde too, and this needs light oil to stop it from oscillating and making a loud buzzing sound when freewheeling.
Take it to your Mavic dealer, and they should be able to sort it out. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.0 -
Thanks all - now convinced that it is the bearing (went as far as taking the back brake off last night to be double sure that it wasn't the blocks rubbing anywhere). Visit to the bike shop planned for this weekend.....0
