Need some - what's a good one?

  • I've got the Muc Off one but think I may have other problems with my rear disk at the moment!

Muc-off one seems OK. Evaporates quickly and doesn't leave a residue. My brakes squeal for the first couple of stops after cleaning but then go quiet again.

hope stuff the, err sh1t shifter is meant to be disc friendly. i use meths to clean my pads, but spose they should work on rotors on too... bit excessive for every day cleaning, used normally just if you get oil or lube on them.

  • Think I will try the Meths out (on my rotors)

It's 99p a bottle instead of £6 for the spray.
  • I'd say isopropyl alcohol, better than meths as it doesn't have the colourants in it, plus it'll evaporate off cleanly.
  • Where can I buy it? Pharmacist?
  • In the end I bought the Muc-Off one (£5) as I was ordering some new brake pads so got it with that - should do the trick.

Next time I am in a chemists I shall ask for some of the other!

isopropyl alcahol can be bought in DIY stores as well, meths is cheaper though buy quite a magin.

  • Second the IPA. Couple of quid for a big can from Maplins. Useful for all sorts of stuff round the house too.

Don't forget that meths has got an additive in it (the blue crap) to make it unpleasant to drink. Might leave a residue?

  • i took mine off, very hot soapy water, a lot of scrubbing will get dirt and most grease off, then muck off for the stubborn grease.

    and a lot of scrubbing.

Didn't come up as new but certainly performed as new

  • When in doubt I always have a nice hot bowl of water with Fairy liquid in and give it a good old scrub then rinse throughly - for most of the things in my life!
