Anyone had any experience with these? What are they comparable with? I am aware that they are made by Campag - have Campag protons on my training bike. Are they better than these?

Thanks.

I also have a question about Fulcrum 3. Is there an enormous difference between Fulcrum3 and Fulcrum1? Is it smart to pay 200€ more for the 1?
    Thanks... :)
  • I have the R3's and I think they're the business. Having said this I've nothing to compare it to.

Yes they're made by a sister company of campag but can also come compatable with as Shimano freewheel I suppose to get a share of their wheel market.
    Every winner has scars.
  • ok, my first hand experience of fulcrums is limited to riding friends' bikes and test bikes, but i have a fair idea also of their merits based on specs/reviews/tests etc.

I reckon anything above the 5s is not worth it. They are not as light as claimed weight by some way and the aerodynamics don't improve across the range. hubs are great as all campag hubs are.

not being negative as they are all generally very good wheels but above the 5s you are shelling out a great deal more for very little if any benefit

I'm also considering these for my new bike.

I had both the threes and fives recommended to me when I bought my last wheelset.
While I ended up spending nearly £400, with hindsight, at £156 the R5 Evo's looked like a steel.

The bike I'm considering comes with Fulcrum 3's as standard or there's the option of DT Swiss mon Chasserals for £100 more. :?

I'm tempted by the mon Chasserals mind.
Love my DT 1850's and think they look 8).
Cheers for the weight info. Sub-70kg so I'm safe in that regard.

Im looking at 3's too, maybe this explains partly why there is a price difference. I know of several users of 3's and no one has had a problem with the hubs nor having the true them up.
  • anyone know why there are two shimano versions for sale?

    one shimano 8/9/10 spd
    one shimano 10 spd

Woggle have got the former in stock, but the latter yo have to wait.
Chainreaction has latter i presume as they are m,arked as dura ace.....whats ti all about then? 2008 spec wheels not in stock yet?
  • Talk to your local road specialist He can tell why and you could even leave with the wheels ion your hands.

that assumes you have a local road specialist - i have to drive 35miles to visit mine - we don't all live in london with a top notch "LBS" on every corner or whatever....

You don't seem that much of an expert, I've never even seen Fulcrum Wheels in a LBS, so I don't how one could just walk out with them around here.

I wrecked a pair within two weeks. The wheels felt good but I noticed that mines came with the spoke nipples that had been heavily covered in Loctite. Sadly when descending off the Ventoux the loctite came off and few spoke came loose. I sent mines back and got a pair of Mavic Es wheels which were much better.

Saying that I havent heard this problem on any other set.

    Brian - 3's or 5's?

The shimano 10 vs 8/9/10 is clear, woggle explains it on their site

I've used 7's, 1's and 0's. The 1 and 0's are fantastic and appear to be bombproof. Never had to do anything to either pair, and the 1's are nearly 2 years old now.
