Veloce rear shifters
I have Veloce groupset on my bike which I'm happy with except the feel of the rear shifters.
Going up through the gears with the thumb is fine but clicking down with the finger feels a bit vague.
Does anyone know if a higher end shifter feels better and if the vagueness has to do with several components and not just the triggers?
Thanks in advance.

I have Veloce and Record.
The Veloce is about 8 years old, though the mech is only 4, and seems fine to me.
I've found that all the compenents in the transmission make a difference. So - are your cables quite new / needing an intial stretch or old and needing replacing. Is the rear mech and the chain clean and lubed? A good service/clean really can make a difference.
But to you question of wether higher spec models provide more positive action, then comparing Veloce to Record the answer is obviously - woooah YES!!0 -
I should have said that it's all new. Only 150 miles done so maybe after it breaks in and settles down it might feel better.
I was told to bring the bike back after 5 or 6 weeks so maybe that is something they look at when doing the first service. The bike should have covered about 1000 miles by then.
I know that when I changed from Shimano LX to XT on my MTB I definitely noticed a difference but I hadn't just changed the shifter's, I'd changed the mech's as well.0 -

Just don't seem to get a definite click and change. Often seems to want to stay in the gear and I'm trying to change down from.
There also seems to be a fair amount of play in the lever action. :?:0 -

My Centaur shifters are pretty positive, get a good loud click when shifting to a smaller sprocket (still brand new - no road miles, so it can't be a case of needing to be broken in).
Perhaps they've not been set up right - it does happen. Where did you get it from?0 -
Sounds like a kink somewhere in the gear cable to me. I ran Veloce 8 for the best part of 10 years, and whenever the change started to give up it was generally a knackered cheap bit like that.0

Get them to check that the upper jockey wheel is not sitting too close (or too far) from the sprockets - the tensioner for this is mounted in an odd place - It's under the "cylinder" housing the spring - sorry, not got my "technical terms" head on.
There's a good diagram and "destructions" on the Campag. website.
I'd agree it's more likely a kink the cabling - get the company to check out the length of the cable outer that sits between the chainstay and the derailleur.
You can see in the picture attached, just how long the cable outer is on mine - I read somewhere that it's a common mistake to make this near 180 degree turn too tight.

I have Veloce 07 shifters and it is 'vague' when changing down. It's almost like a friction shifter. Going up is fine with the thumb shifter...a postive click.
I find this annoying as well.
I'd upgrade if I thought Centaur was better,0 -
As far as I know all campagnolo gears have now the soft touch - because of customer feed back to campagnolo.
If you want the old style you would have to become a pro rider as they ( and only them) get a special version with a hefty click.0
