The spring in my right gear shifter has popped out - had it apart and cannot put it back by hand. Is this a job that a bike repair shop would be able to do, or am I looking at new shifters?

If need replacing any recommendations for low cost option - at the moment I have integrated shifters and v brakes so I assume both would need replacing.

what shifter? and what were you doing to cause it to "pop" out?

  • not exactly sure what shifter it is without looking (will check tonight) all I know is it's a shimano shifter on a gt bike that's about five years old. Wasn't doing anything in particular - just noticed that the shifter wasn't returning when changing gear so took casing off and noticed the spring wasn't in place.

My quess would be SRAM X.. and no I don't know the answer except to buy a replacement!
  • Thanks - look like a replacement is needed....anybody recommend a cheap option - integrated brake and gear shifter (8 speed)?
