Just thought I would ask you guys... I know what the missus will say. How can I justify buying a new one?? I would make it myself of course... which saves money... right??

I feel the need for a full sus bike.. I live in South Wales , so there are plenty of places worthy!

Get her involved, then you get the enjoyment of purchasing two full-sussers and you get to spend more time with her!

It's working out ok so far for me and I seem to be getting away with a lot more with regard to buying gear and upgrading! I actually get to ride twice as much, as I still get to go on my all-mountain anger sessions on Sunday with the lads, but get a nice XC/trail session in on Saturday with her :D Win/win I hear you say?

here is how i justify my cycling:

    To others:
    1. It keeps me fit and healthy
    2. I have a knee problem and the physio tells me cycling is one of the best things I can do
    3. Its fun

    To Myself
    1. Its fun
    2. Its fun
    3. Its fun

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
  • Send her away to a (cheap) spa, don't tell her how much it cost, have the MTB ready for when she returns.

just use it before she comes back and hse might not even notice unless she knows her stuff??

    Ahh, that old trick!
"Oh this? Oh, I've had this for ages, [insert random friends name] passed it on to me when he upgraded his bike. It was really good of him actually, didn't even want paying for it. Anyway, how was your day...."

It's that last sentence that's important!

P.S. Stumpyjon, always loved that sig!

  • Now here is a man with a plan, getting others to agree with the purchasing suggestion, I like it.

I should've thought of this too, unfortunatly I went through the usual way of begging and pleeding for a good 3 months before being told "no".

Still, luck was on my side becuase a week ago I found a crack in my head tube and as soon as her in doors saw it I was ordered to "buy a new bike immediately!"
I'm sure that rattling will go away...

There are some good replys... looks like the general feelings are... Buy it.

I was looking at a nice Norco Six VPS frame on Flea-Bay. It sold before I could bid though! Will keep looking for a bargain. I want something suitable for Afan, Cwm Carn and the like. Im about 6ft 3 and about 14 stones.

Thanks for all the replys. I actually bought her a bike last christmas as she has never owned one... admitidly it was only £70 but it does the job!
