im off to the lakes in september for a week long epic and im taking the my 06 enduro expert.
the only problem is, its slightly on the hefty side, 34 and a quarter pounds to be precise, so would be interested to know of how i can shave some weight woithout loosing its strenght. im changing to tubless tyres soon, but id still like to cut some more weight off somehow. target weight is about 32lbs or less.
any help much appreciated.

i'd imagine your post/saddle are hiding a bit. Same for bars and stem. Also grips, get the foam ones from poshbikes.0

i did see that changing for a good wheelset can dramtically alter your ride!
out of interest, what is a good weight for wheels?? ive been looking at the mavic crossride disc 08's as they are a good price, front is 885g rear is 1035g, is that acceptable or too heavy??
seatpost, saddle, bars and stem are a good way to loose a few lb's depending on what you have on currently,
there are a couple of places from china selling rediculously light cranksets on ebay for silly cheap money too at the mo (800g with bb),
my trouble isnt the bike weight, more the rider!!!!;)Timmo.

what about the dt swiss wheel sets..?? had a good look at them at core bike a couple of weeks ago and they look ace....
Or if you are feeling really flus, the new crank bros ones look amazing.0 -

have just replaced the grips with lizaerd skin lock on so dont want to be changing them. incidentally they added 0.2lbs. and will soon be changing all the drivetrain to deore xt. that may alter the weight slightly anyway.I said hit the brakes not the tree!!

Not sure crossrides will save much weight, if any, though I dont know the rims weight that you are using. Looking at the spec, its never going to be a super light machine: it may cost a bit to get the weight down!0

yer i know thats the porblem. im thinking of going tubeless in the next few months or so, so that should shed some poundage and as its rotating weight will make a good bit of difference.
im reluctant to go the carbon route, purely on terms of cost and im not that obsessed!! do you think i should just go with the tubeless wheelset?I said hit the brakes not the tree!!

Some tubeless sets and tyres weigh more than the non tube equivalents. Depends how you do it. UST tyres use a thicker sidewall.0

hmmm, im thinking it'll also save me bloody pinchflats too.
i suppose i could just get fitter and stronger legs. would be much cheaper!!I said hit the brakes not the tree!!

How much do those tyres actually weigh? OE bars/saddles and seatpost can hide lard too.0
-
TBH why not just take it easy on the ups and enjoy the downs to their fullest?
You can still pedal a 30lb bike uphill - just slowly. And you'll have calves like grapefruit!I hate it when people say David Beckham's stupid...its not like anyone ever says: 'Stephen Hawking - he's s**t at football.' Paul Calf0 -
You can pedal a 30lb bike uphill fast, you just need to be a lot fitter. Surely if you drop the forks right down it'll climb pretty well.0
-
it does climb farely well with the forks dropped.
the reason im trying to loose weight, is that im doing a week long epic in the lakes on it in september, and want to be able to keep up with everyone else. i would take my xc bike, but have another week afterwards of general thrashing about, so for that hte enduro would be best. id just like to drop a pound or two to make it slightly easier and less exhausting by the end of the day.I said hit the brakes not the tree!!
