I wish to grease the bearings on a set of shimano hubs. There appears to be a plate which is fixed in place to cover the spoke ends, this plate needs to be removed to allow the bearing nut to be removed allowing access to the bearings. Is it a matter of pring this plate of with a screwdriver because the plate appears to be tightly fitted and i am worried about damaging it. any suggestions?

  • Shimano hubs are very easy to service but procedures differ slightly between their factory built wheels and their standard road hubs. From your description it sounds like you're talking about factory built wheels? Check out the Shimano website which has very good servicing/technical drawings and/or the Park Tools website which is similarly very clear.
