I use the racing ralphs at thetford in the summer and they are excellant. Nobbynicks will be fine for both summer and winter at thetford. They have a great compound which is great for thetford.
Larger size will probably give more ride comfort as it can compress that bit more. Also more traction due to bigger tread. Wont cut through mud as well though0 -
I use Nobby Nics all round through winter, and with a Racing Ralph on the back in summer.
Great tyres for speed, lightness, whilst still gripping much harder than you would think.
Bit thorn puncture prone though.2006 Giant XTC
2010 Giant Defy Advanced
2016 Boardman Pro 29er
2016 Pinnacle Lithium 4

I use Nobby Nics on both my bikes. 2.1 on the full suss and 2.25 (UST) on the rigid. They seem pretty good at Thetford, I have used them at D2D and the Winter Series races, and I have managed to go reasonably well.
Going up a size in tyre will give you a bit more grip, but the rolling resistance will increase - whether you can actually feel this is another matter. I find larger tyres work well on off camber sections of trail.
The only time I find NN tyres lacking is in really sticky mud, when they don't clear that well. From what I have seen at Thetford, you don't have to much of that. If you ride on the road much they do wear down pretty quickly.0 -
I've got Nobby Nics on the front of two of my bikes. They seem pretty good on the whole. However, they don't cut through deep mud too well.
I tried them on the back of my klein, but they seem to clog up too easily compared to my scott oxyd tyres, that's why they ended up on the front of two bikes.
They are good in hard pack + pebbles, but you also notice the increased rolling resistance when you are tanking it.Sh....itespeed http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/1729687/

Scott tyres.... seriously... you liked them. To me they seemd absolutely attrocious on anuyjink apart from asphalt Admittedly they didn;t clog up in mud... they just spun around at a standstill in it0 -
Honest dude....
They are pretty light, they are suple enough to grip on pebbles + wet roots when ridden at lower pressures and deffinitely don't clog up.
Abit like the old michelin XRC drys with alot more grip.
Honest dude.. if there is a hill that is to be gotten up.. i'd put 'em on the back wheel all the time... they are my climbers wheel of choice. Admittedly they took abit of gettin' used to, but then again, I always used to have semi treds on the back!Sh....itespeed http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/1729687/

Ok. I tried mine for a few months and were ok until wet weather (came with the bike). When it dres up again (if ever) I'm going for Ralphs... but I migt try the Scotts again at the back for comparisson.0
