If the is the wrong section, sorry
I have to honest, I hate the look of the std style cycle helmets ie http://brandscycle.com/itemdetails.cfm? ... 39&id=7935 and much prefer the look of this style http://brandscycle.com/itemdetails.cfm? ... 39&id=7851.
Is there a preference from a safety point of view and why?

safety wise i would assume they are both made tp protect top the same level as all helmets have to conform to a soecific level if i remember correctly,
the one you like are more meant for bmx style riders on dirt tracks etc and offer very little ventilation to help keep your bonce cool, and are often refered as 'P#ss pot' lids!
ive just bought a giro hex on the advice of the good peeps on here and ma looking forward to using it, (its being held hostage at my mothers place until my Birthday next week!) as its a significant upgrade from my old style Met helmet!
but effectively there isnt anything that sais you cant use a bmx style lid for mtb'ing and vice cersa as far as i know (please correct me if i am wrong)!Timmo.

theres nothing wrong with using a bmx helmet for mtbing you just get a REALLY hot head. brilliant when riding in the snow but can get a bit much in the summer. safety wise they're all fine for protection i think.
something like a fox flux/giro hex/giro xen has good styling and good airflow, best of both worlds.0 -

I agree with the first post. I hate the conventional helmet design. There's just no way anyone can look cool whilst wearing one.
I can just about bear to wear my Met Parachute and only then because it has the same looks as a full-face (because of the jaw protector). I still look a bit of a tit wearing it, but the protection/tit ratio is in my favour0
