Ye gods! Sunshine? On a day off? Right, only one thing for it, get the bike out!
What a sublime ride it was. I took off up the Wye Valley, on up to Monmouth and then up towards the Golden Valley. Sang the obligatory few bars of "Bohemian Rhapsody" as I passed Rockfield studios, where the great track was laid down, then headed on up To Skenfrith.
Up unitl this point the scenery hs been merely stunning. Mounting the ridge before the left turn to Cross Ash brought things into the heart-wrenchingly gorgeous bracket - the views across the Golden Valley into England in one direction, and on to the Black Mountains the other are to die for.
I pedalled on past Skirrid mountain into Abergavenny - the descent from Llandewi Skirrid down past the Walnut Tree Inn has all been resurfaced and is brilliant - like a French road - the bike just runs silently.
After a quick cake stop, I pushed on to Usk and then back over the top at Cobbler's Plain back nto the Wye Valley.
Google maps shows the best part of 50 miles - it's probably nearer 55-60 taking into account the windy lanes.

Quite simply, awesome.

Sounds like a great ride Rob.
And unbelievably we had sunshine on a Saturday too! I only had a couple of hours on the bike but made the most of it on the beautiful rolling English courtyside between Luton & Hitchin. At one point there were horses galloping in the field alongside me and I just thought "it doesnt get better than this!"
Every little climb was a dream with no complaints from my legs making all those wet winter rides instantly worthwhile.
Made me realise how much I love cycling.0 -
yep - had one of those smiling to myself moments as i span out at one point with the sun in my face and wind behind me today
Just over 80 miles today in total and on my retro colnago "ratter" bike.
Was just praying it didnt puncture - tubs on it!!
Anyone know if, when one of them does go, do ou apply the tape to the rim opr the tyre first...i imagine the rim?Big Ted Rides Hard...0 -

How long have you been off? It will have been 2 weeks for me, which is really annoying as there is a 2 up TT and a sportive all hapenning in 2 and 3 weeks time.....I'll be suffering like a dog0 -
I did a good 60 miles today without any rain - the first time for many weeks. It was blues skies and no wind but after 30 or so miles the mist came rolling over the moors but at least it still stayed dry. It was good to see other like minded cyclists out today it actually felt springlike.Brian B.0

Got out for around 50 just before dawn. Fog was pretty thick in places at first but lifted quickly once the sun got up. Surprised to only pass the one guy out, Saturday seems to be more popular around here. My fingers were numb at first, toes were purple by the end and my snot turned blood red half way through.
I'm off Monday and Tuesday and the weather looks like it might holdWinner: PTP Vuelta 20070 -

60 miles round the Fife coast - along the Cults, out to Leven, then Elie, St Monans, Pittenweem, Cellardye, Crail, Kingsbarns, St Andrews, Leuchars, up to Balmullo, Dairsie, up the Den to Pitscottie and home.
Harsh Westerly wind was a problem for the first and last 10 miles, otherwise it was total bliss under clear blue skies.
Problem was, I forgot it was February, thought it was September. Consequently, felt ace for the first 40 miles and went like a hamster in a wheel and felt sh1te for the rest and went like a hippo up a muddy bank.
Clearly, there is work to do at this end of the year!0
