Ive recently moved to lovely scenic Warwickshire west of Coventry near Kenilworth, and im looking for some nice hills to go up. Does anyone know of any? My training route at the mo is decidedly flat.

Hello Billios,
Burton Dassett Hills from Avon Dassett are good.
Edge Hill in South Warwickshire is also a good climb at around 14.
I did them both as part of the Godiva Sportive last year, and am planning to revisit them when I've got more miles in my legs. It's a bit of a trek from Nuneaton.0 -
Awesome, thanks a lot. Ill try and check them out this weekend since the weather forecast is good.0

If you head out towards Meriden the area bounded by Meriden, Maxstoke, Ansley and Corley is 'folded' There's nothing too hard, but plenty that will get your HR up
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Meriden-lumpy-26k-loop is a suggested loop if you want to get a feel of what's out there.0 -
Many thanks for the loop, thats great. It kinda bolts onto my current route which is brilliant. Many thanks for the advice.0

There's nothing very big close by, but here are a few of the ones I go and up and down on a regular basis:
There are a few little ones near Claverdon. Head out of Claverdon towards Langley and you go down a 1 in 6. Turn left at the bottom (after going under the railway) and there's a bit of a climb up which is the finish of a road race circuit. Go over the top and turn right at the crossroads, through Wolverton and there's a drop down on the road to Snitterfield that you'd notice as a hill if you were going the other way.
Also, if you were riding north from Long Marston (SW of Stratford) towards Welford there's a little conk to go over. And if you were in Alderminster, south of Stratford, and headed towards Loxley, there are a couple of steep little pull ups, with a nice view of Stratford from the top of the second, just before Loxley.

It was very nice riding round the little lanes in the sunshine. The only negative was the constant drone of traffic from the M6 in the distance.
PS I was born in Kenilworth, and lived there for 7 years. My family then moved to Coventry and I spent 20 years there, unfortunately only 4 of them owning bikes. I've left the S/S bike at my mother's house so I can explore Warwickshire on my regular trips back to the midlands.
I didn't think that I'd enjoy cycling here as much as I do since I'm used to gorgeous scenery in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Derbyshire. Actually, I find it makes a nice change...0 -

Not sure if this is too far east for you, but i have a number of training routes centred on the area around Hellidon, Priors Marston and Woodford Halse. If you look at the following links on www.bikely.com, you might be able to use some of them for your routes;
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Da ... ia-Byfield
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Da ... orthampton
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Da ... d-and-back

Not sure if these are suitable for you, but it wouldn't take that much to get from Kenilworth to the area around Southam (via Cubbington and offchurch for instance). Once at Southam, this opens up all this area across to Woodford Halse, Eydon, Canons Ashby, Culworth etc etc.
The hills aren't rediculaously steep, but tend to come one after the other. Some of the roads can be a bit 'heavy' as well. You'll know you've been on them.
enjoy

As mentioned above Edge Hill is a good 'un and then plenty of hills in that neck of the woods.0

hey Colin, my "new" bike (The Spech Rubaix) came from the bike shop in kenilworth! Next time you are planning on visiting your parents we could maybe meet up (at least for a drink if not a ride!). Its about 30 mins drive from my village.
JB2 minute grovels can sometimes be a lot longer..tho' shorter on a lighter bike :-)

Hello Everyone,
Many thanks for all your replies, hopefully the weather this weekend will be as good as the one just gone so I can go check it out.
Ive just moved here from South Wales, so used to having some nice big hills to climb. The countryside is great though, especially when the sun is out 8) .0
