Polar HRM/Computer and Rear Wheel Mounting
Hi All,
Does anyone have any experience of mounting the speed sensor of the Polar S725x HRM onto the rear wheel instead of the front. Looking at the Cadence sensor, that is mounted by the crank-set it should work there as well.
Makes it easier for me when on the trainer....
Cheers
PS. Anyone ever order anything from the USA. At the moment with the exchange rate the offers look quite tempting.
Cheers

Is it a wireless sensor? Some manufacturers state that wireless sensors need to be in line of sight of the unit or that the two can only be a certain distance apart.
I guess you could always mount the sensor with zip ties on the rear stay and then put the magnet on the spoke and give it a go. If you run out of zip ties you can get them from B and Q.0 -

My S520 does not work from the back wheel. As Reddraggon says the monitor needs to be close to the sensor.I know that you believe that you understand what you think I said but I am not sure you realise that what you heard is not what I meant.0

Hi All,
I know it states approximately 50cm from the unit in the manual, but the cadence sensor is wireless and that works from the wheel stays near the crank-set, and the sensors look the same. I thought that if the cadence works wirelessly from here then so should the speed sensor????
When the new one arrives, I'll give it a go anyway. Got hundreds of zip ties, so wasting a few wont matter

I've tried it with mine and could only get it to receive the signal if I put the computer about 1/2 way along the top tube. I guess the Cadence sensors puts out a bit more power.
I'm sure your local techno nerd could probably boost the out put on the speed sensor.0 -

Thanks for that Orv, I now have a project for the weekend!0

I'm looking to buy the Polar CS200 cad, do you think the mod could be done to this too?! I've not seen the sensors yet, but I would imagine they arecommon parts.
Can anyone confirm this please?!0 -
I've got a CS200 cad it doesnt work on the back wheel with the computer mounted on the bars.
The only way I've got it working on the back wheel is if I mount the computer halfway along the top tube as somebody else has already said.0 -
My question was to ask if the wheel speed sensor is the sametype as is shown in the link provided.......0

No the sensors aren't the same. As far as I know the sensor 200CAD cannot be opened either, you have to send them back to Polar for battery replacement, although I'm sure that you could open them yourself just not sure if the fix will work.
I did the mod this weekend and it seems to work but only if I have the computer on the same side as the sensor, it wouldn't pick up the signal if it was on the right had side of the handle bar. I've put the sensor on the chain stay with the magnet as close to the rim as possible.
The sensor had a fresh battery about 2 months ago so it can't be putting out much power!0 -
FYI I gave up trying to get my wireless sensors working reliably and got a (wired) polar power sensor setup off ebay instead!
I could get them (wireless sensors) all working in the kitchen... but as soon as I was out and about would lose either the speed or cadance. occasionally got both working somehow.. but then the next time I went out wouldn't get any data at all.0 -
That was a waste of time, I can get it to work sporadically but not consistently on the trainer and on the road it doesn't work at all, oh well back to the forks....0
