  • what a hit, thought they couldn't better it but looking good.

love the bowie clown (bit of a phobia of clowns so scares the poop out of me)
will be a thursday night regular for me now.
  • Philip Glenister; what an actor. New series of Clocking Off is back on as well, he was impressive in that too. typecasting? who cares when you connect with your co stars so magnificently.
  • I loved Life on Mars and was looking forward to this.

Nearly gave up half way through. Thought it was pretty lame.
Obviously, it was trying to be ironic, but at times it was a bit too much like a bad episode of The A-Team or Miami Vice.

Hope it gets better. I'll give it another episode to improve since LoM was so good.

    I agree.

Within the fantasy world of Sam Tyler there was a hint of the characters taking themselves seriously plus we were left as viewers to try and work out the logic of it all.

With ashes to ashes we know what it's all about. The action is now fantasy on top of fantasy with everything now resting on Phillip Glenister carrying it through ridiculous scenes of shootouts with machine guns.

Do you remember him as the German Colonel in that Jersey occupation thing a few years back? Always a good watch IMO.

"bit too much like a bad episode of The A-Team "

But...BUT....there is no such thing as a bad episode of the A-Team!

And yes the "your diary for today" line was just wonderful.

Any fit looking woman in a mini skirt showing stocking tops gets my vote!!!:wink:
Don't be too picky and give the writer's a couple of episodes and then decide.

I agree - the first episode had to set the scene for the first 20 minutes or so. Hopefully it'll get into its stride by the next episode.

Haven't seen it yet but it is residing on the hard drive ready for viewing this evening. Don't care if it is drivel, just as long as there are large dollops of politically uncorrect language and sexual references 8)

Was just coming in here to start a thread on the very same subject :D

Massive fan of life on mars, but due to my age (31) I think I will get more enjoyment out of this, as I can remember it first hand.

Keeley Hawes is gorgeous, as well as being a very talented actress, and I think this series will go a very long way.

I'm also a petrol head, so the Quattro gets my vote everytime 8)

Here to download/watch for those poor souls who missed it, or repeated on BBC4 next Thursday, at 10PM.

Is the uniformed black sergeant the same guy who played the new Detective Constable/Deputy Comissioner(rank?) in Life on Mars?

It was the best hour of TV since the end of LoM. Sure, some of it was 'hammed up' (Fire up the Quattro... etc) but who cares (not me).
    There is no secret ingredient...
  • The fact thats its way more OTT than LoM is what made it great. Otherwise its just a continuation which might be no bad thing, but I don't think it's meant to be that, it's supposed to be different. Personally I wouldnt want another serious or semi serious cops series, there's enough of that already. For me though again it has Glenister's magic touch - he had a great chemistry with John Simm and now with Keeley Hawes. It's brilliant! Benny Hill meets the Professionals

I didn't watch any of Life on Mars and felt I missed out on something good. I really wanted to watch last night but didn't manage it. Do you know if it's repeated? I could try the new bbc iplayer - anyone used that? is it free? (I'm tight).

    Popette,

I'm pretty damned sure the iplayer is free, I'm going to download it tonight, and you can either watch it online, or download a 600mb file for a better quality format - I will be downloading it tonight.

You can only watch downloads for up to 3 weeks, so I can't see how they can charge for it........

Otherwise, it's on BBC4, but not until next Thursday at 10PM, so after episode 2 on BBC1.

    Enjoy :D

When? What they are showing on ITV2 (or 3) is the repeats from the old series on BBC.

Have a crush on Glennister since the Clocking Off days....!

LOVING Ashes to Ashes! Laughed my head off.

unfortunately you'll not find life on mars online other than illegal download.

the dvd's for both series will be about £50 from CEX or any other dvd and computer game trade in shop.

Also on Bravo if you have a Sky box or similar - I think they show 2 episodes back-to-back every Tuesday. Not sure how far into the re-runs they are, though.
As for Ashes to Ashes, I wasn't quite sure how they could maintain the momentum after Life on Mars came to an end, but they seem to have managed it and I'm looking forward to next week's instalment.

Definitely worth a buy if you didn't see it on TV, knocks spots off what we've seen of Ashes to Ashes so far.
