I have no idea why I want to do this! Maybe it's becuase I have got in to road biking??
Anyway,
What would be the best rigid carbon mtb fork out there and is there anything else to chosse from other than Pace, On-One and Whyte Brothers?

Cheers,

  • my best mate has the Pace fork, it's superb, quite a bit of suspension, weighs nothing and looks tip top

I run Pace RC31's on my singlespeed and I've been impressed with them.

I've got a set of the Ritchey WCS carbon rigids and have been very impressed. Come in at well under 500g as well

I really do like carbon forks, they are nice on road & still pretty good off road due to the fact they make the front end so light you can lift over most obstacles really easily.Sure they make you a little slower off road because you have to pick your lines better & not steam roller over everything like you can with a sus fork but it's more fun imo & improves your skills. The only down side is they flex backwards like crazy under braking but this flex takes the sting out of hits as well.
Put it this way, I ride mainly road & light fast xc & I have set of FOX RLT80s that I haven't used since getting the Carbons.
Oh one more thing, these Bontragers are not pure carbon like the Pace ones, they have a thin alu inner core which the carbons wrapped round so are not quite as light but they are stronger & have minimal sideways flex. They do work really well though.
  • Thanks for the advice,

A couple of Manufacturers I had not thought of there (Ritchey and Bontrager)
I will be fitting these to a Merlin Malt4. It will only be used on the road for a couple of miles to get to the smooth singletrack trails and forsetry roads near my home. I like the fuss free look of the carbon forks and the weight saving that they will make.

    :)
