Does anybody elso record their cycling-related data in spreadsheets and the like?

I keep an Excel spreadsheet, updated daily, where I put mileage (and soon other useful  bits of information). The forumlas automatically calculate the following:

-calories burned
-calories burned in "days off food"
-savings in petrol
-hours on bike
-days on bike
-large deep pan pepperoni pizzas burned
-Starbucks paninis burned (Mozarella)

and more

The spreadsheet also automatically generates a few graphs (e.g. target vs actual mileage per week). I can review previous weeks' data or see the results 'so far'...

No, but I wouldn't mind a look at yours (Oooh errr)

Even if I didn't use it for logging it would be good for 'what if' scenarios

How far can i go on a Moccafrappalattacino with cream double cream and cream?

The only info I ever record is my fastest time into (21.46) and from (19.22) work, which I keep in my head and attemp to beat on the days I can be bothered.
  • Sadly I do as well

From this data I can tell you that a Milk Chocolate Digestive will power me along the road for 1.7miles :D

I'm glad I'm not the only person who does this sort of nonsense...

you should post a version of your Excel somewhere where we can all download it, like the sad bunch we are...

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Excel and I have never been good friends, but would be quite interested to see it. See if you can post it somewhere we can download.

I keep a spreadsheet but it's in no way as sophisticated as yours. It just stores the times, average speed, max speed and distance. Nothing fancy really.

    Pah,

Don't you know that Excel is a glorified calculator, not a Database?

No I don't do stuff like that in Access or MSDE or Oracle etc.

Even if i did i would forget to update it, the amount of times Ive had to ask a collegaue what time I arrived at work so I could add it to my time sheet............

Yeh, but excel is easy, needs no brain input, and I don't need to build an Access database - if I made it 'flash' I wouldn't use it.................

Oh dear, that's far too geeky!

I'm a computer nerd and ex hacker so my desire to record stats and never throw away information is very high. I still have no desire to log time and distance!

I know how far I go, I cen tell how fast I'm going without a cycle computer and I also know how many calories I burn.

750 a day just from cycling.

  • Here's a link for those who would prefer not to pay a lot of money for Office, and get similar results. No , this isn't some sort of scam. Just open source software. What? You aren't using Linux? Even if you ain't, you can still use this in Windows! Enjoy!

I just keep a basic record of time/distance along with a monthly total. That's done in a spreadsheet (OpenOffice Calc actually) & whilst I realise that it really should be done in a database I simply can't be stuffed to build one for such a small amount of data items (counts - 3 - date, distance, time).
    There is no secret ingredient...
  • I saw this the other day and categorised it as too geeky even for me!

Then remembered about my T-SQL script which calculates the percentage of days I've driven thoughout the year (this being my first year).

(On target for 5%, by April 18th, FYI (but only if I don't have to drive again for any reason)).
I've forgotten my PIN for the pain barrier.
