I'm going mad looking for new tyres, so let me put it to you guys for advice...

I want to replace the tyres on my bike. The reason being, believe it or not, because the Continental Gravity's (non folding) that I have are just too hard to get on and off. Every time I get a puncture I have the same battle with them that nearly has me in tears!!!! I ended up buying a pair of huge metal Park Tools levers, which has helped, but carrying one of them in my back pack seems ridiculous. Luckily I've not had to fix a puncture on the trail, but I live in constant fear.. it even puts me off going night riding!! I can't imagine wrestling with one of those with cold fingers in the dark <<shudder>>

Anyway, I've decided to bite the bullet and get some Alternative tyres.. if anyone wants to buy a pair of barely used 2.35 Gravitys..let me know!!

So here are my requirements.. any input greatly appreciated:

Size: 2.2+
Useage: Year round XC
Weight: As light as possible (would really like to save some weight here). Gravity's weigh aroung 800g and I would definately like something lighter if possible
Budget: As cheap as possible
Bead: KEVLAR!!!!!!

Any help greatly appreciated...

  • I've used panaracer cinder 2.25 folding tyres and found them to be excellent all rounders, not sure of the weight but can't be any more than your continental tyres. I'm willing to sell them because i've just fitted a tubless conversion kit and the fairly loose folding bead on panaracer tyres are not recommended for tubless, however the loose bead means no more fighting with tyre levers. asking £15 for the pair plus P+P
  • Derek.. I have sent you a PM.
  • I was going to mention that most Panaracer tyres have fairly loose beads so are a doddle to get on and off, tyres I would have suggested if you haven't bough the cinders are maybe the 2.35 razor PR, 630grams, tough sidewalls, light and very fast. good all round tyre avoid the non PR version as you will snakebite all the time, or for something with a bit more meat the rampage. used both and had good results with them.
  • Thanks Dave.. input appreciated.
