Anyone entered this ? www.shimano24.com ?

Seems like a bit of fun - I have no chance of being in any prizes, but it will be a laugh ?

  • 24 hour racing? Yes, I'm sure it'll be hilarious. I'm washing my hair that weekend though. :)
  • 24 hours going round the same circuit? That's not why I do sportives.

Teams of five - so you dont do the full 24 hours - and the circuit is 9 miles long anyway.

Maybe just none who fancy a 5 hour road race?

Will be very interesting to see how it turns out though. Can't see a "bunch" staying together for more than a couple of hours..........then it'll probably turn into small groups riding together. Not sure I fancy racing through the night in a pack either, but if the groups are small enough it may not be too dangerous I suppose.

Yeah I cant see the bunch staying together for very long. I reckon some elites will probably blast it and the rest of them will be in small bunches or alone.

    Tactics will be interesting too.

Not sure ! Shimano had backed it, but I doubt my team would have been in the prizes anyway.

OK, so the prize money is actually pretty decent.

This was being discussed on Veloriders and the main reasons people weren't keen on the idea was:
    - safety concerns about riding in a group in the dark with tired riders
    - difficulty getting teams of 5 willing to do it
    - the event being mid season will probably impact riders ability to ride other more important events in the week or so to follow
    - the circuit looked pretty tough for racing for 5 hours each
    - roadies don't really like new ideas!

I think they'd have had more sucess if they'd offered a 12-hour format as a starting point and tried to build on it next year
